Our year continues and we continue to gain experience with changes in our walk procedures.  We had our first walk that included the support team and it was very successful.  Although we are still learning our way, we have a good start.  One of the best parts includes opportunities for the bigger community to be involved in each walk.  We have had some of these options in the past by having outside groups provide the agape feast or music for candlelight.  Below is a list of additional ways that you and your reunion group or home church Emmaus group can help each walk be THE BEST WALK EVER!

·         Sponsor someone!  Our weekends cannot happen without pilgrims which means they cannot happen without sponsors! 

·         Join the prayer vigil

·         Provide dinner Thursday night for the team

·         Attend the pilgrim Send Off on Thursday evening

·         Come and pray for any of the speakers during their talks

·         Set up for the special Saturday night dinner

·         Provide the Sponsor’s Hour or Candlelight programs,

·         Write letters to the pilgrims

·         Provide special dessert for the Saturday night dinner

·         Organize and lead the Candlelight music

·         Attend Closing, even if you don’t have a pilgrim there.

·         Organize and lead the Closing music

·         Help on Sunday afternoon with packing the trailer or helping load the music equipment.

·         Contact the Lay Director or Support Team Coordinator of the walk and ask how you can help.

 

Another responsibility we have is to spread the word about Emmaus throughout our churches.  Is your church active in our community?  As the song says, “it only takes a spark to get a fire going”.  Be the spark that rekindles the love we all feel when we help with the walks. Here are some ideas:

 

·         Help your church learn about Emmaus – hosting a gathering or have an informational luncheon for the church or provide pamphlets provided by the Upper Room

·         Help your pastor to learn about Emmaus. We always need pastoral help on the walks.

·         Help keep the fire lit in your church Emmaus Fellowship by providing lunch for the team meetings or hosting a gathering

·         Have agape parties and make agape or food gifts for the walks

·         Attend gatherings and candlelight services as a fellowship group

 

Get with your church Emmaus fellowship or your reunion group and pick out one of these ways to participate in the next walk.  Not only will you be a blessing to the team and the pilgrims, but they will be a blessing to you!  Help our community flourish in the God’s name and glory.  Get involved!
